What are veneers?

Veneers are tiny shells made from porcelain or other composite materials. They are custom made to your teeth and help remedy imperfections of your teeth. Veneers are used to correct discolored teeth, misaligned and uneven teeth, gaps between teeth or other slight flaws such as chipped or slightly broken teeth. Veneers are also recommended if you want to protect your natural teeth.

What is the procedure to have veneers?

First of all, the dentist needs a photo of your large smile and a panoramic x-ray. You may have the x-ray in the clinic. You need to describe the result you want to obtain.
To prepare a tooth for a veneer, dentist will remove about half a millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface. This is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface.
Then dentist takes an imprint of your teeth and veneers are made in the laboratory. About 4 days afterwards, veneers are ready and the dentist fixes it to your teeth and makes all necessary adjustments.

Veneers placement results

Well, after veneers placement desired results are obtained. Veneers have very natural look, the intervention is not visible.
Your smile is just like the one of Hollywood stars, especially if you have added veneers on most of your teeth.

Remarks on veneer adding

Please have in mind that adding veneers is irreversible. It is important if you envisage dental whitening, you need to do it before the veneer adding.
Veneers are just like natural teeth, so they are vulnerable at the same level. They may broke or chip. They are replaceable, but you need to know that once you have added veneers, you could not take them off, you may just replace them.

Difference between veneers and crowns

Veneers are added to teeth to correct aesthetical issues. Bonding is used, but it is for teeth that have slight flaws.
Crowns are used to cover, protect and replace teeth with serious damages.
If you have only aesthetical issues, your choice should be veneers.
